The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine seeks a highly skilled Senior Lab Specialist to provide scientific and technical support for laboratory-based research in molecular genetics, with a focus on DNA repair, DNA recombination, and CRISPR-mediated gene editing.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the laboratory, perform research studies, and assist in experiments for Dr. Eric A. Hendrickson, PhD.
- Assist others with experiments involving cell culture, Western blotting, DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, and CRISPR editing.
- Instruct new lab members in scientific methodology.
- Work with senior scientists to develop methodologies and protocols for ongoing lab projects.
- Assist with data collection and entry in electronic media.
- Order lab supplies and perform routine laboratory maintenance.
- Perform data analysis and procedures, and act as a laboratory manager.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- 9 years of experience in a lab technician role, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Master's degree in molecular biology or a related field preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to mentor less-experienced lab personnel.
This position requires extensive periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments, as well as keyboarding and other bench work and procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
