This role qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which provides reimbursement for student loan payments. Candidates must fulfill specific eligibility criteria in line with VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility duration (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office following a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Basic Requirements:

  1. Must be a United States Citizen; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited as per VA Policy.
  2. Possession of a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree from an accredited medical education program.
  3. Current, unrestricted medical or surgical license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  4. Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
  5. Proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  6. Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.

Preferred Experience: Significant experience in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is highly valued. Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and to establish strong interpersonal relationships with all levels of healthcare personnel.

Physical Requirements: Candidates must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is mandatory. This position is subject to drug testing. Physical demands include lifting 15-44 pounds, pushing for approximately 2 hours, reaching above shoulder level, using fingers and both hands, and walking or standing for 3-5 hours, along with kneeling. The ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously is essential.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct assessments and provide care for new and returning patients with a variety of medical conditions.
  2. Order necessary diagnostics, consultations, medications, and other therapies as indicated.
  3. Address preventative health maintenance needs.
  4. Complete all required documentation in the VA computer system, including clinical reminders and screenings, in a timely manner.
  5. Perform evaluations, including history and physical examinations; diagnose; consult; and treat adult patients.
  6. Supervise residents, fellows, and other trainees.

Work Schedule: Standard hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
