This role qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers student loan repayment assistance. Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria as outlined by VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within the designated timeframe following appointment. Approval and award amounts (up to $200,000) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the application.
Basic Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not feasible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Medical Degree: Must possess a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. jurisdiction.
- Residency: Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
- Language Proficiency: Must demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board Certification: Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Significant experience in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is highly desirable. Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to establish productive interpersonal relationships with all levels of healthcare personnel.
Physical Requirements: Candidates must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is mandatory. This position is subject to drug testing. Physical demands include lifting 15-44 pounds, pushing for approximately 2 hours, reaching above shoulder level, and the ability to walk and stand for 3-5 hours, as well as kneeling. Rapid mental and muscular coordination is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments and provide care for new and returning patients with diverse medical conditions.
- Order diagnostic tests, consultations, medications, and other therapies as clinically indicated.
- Address preventative health maintenance needs of patients.
- Complete all necessary documentation in the VA computer system, including clinical reminders and screenings, in a timely manner.
- Perform evaluations, including history and physical examinations, diagnosis, consultations, and treatment of adult patients.
- Supervise residents, fellows, and other trainees in the medical field.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
