Medical Assistant, GI and Transplant Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our Transplant and GI teams.
Key Responsibilities- Provide patient care services under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, mid-level provider, or physician in an office setting.
- Assist patients with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, and performing screenings as per provider guidelines.
- Chart patient information, relay instructions to patients and families, and answer calls.
- Perform clerical duties such as sending and receiving patient medical records, completing forms and requisitions, and scheduling appointments.
- Manage and update charts to ensure accurate and complete information.
- Perform environmental duties such as setting up instruments and equipment, cleaning exam and procedure rooms, and maintaining infection control.
- Participate in quality control methods, CLIA-waived testing, and laboratory procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants.
- Current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.
- Phlebotomy training and license, if required by practice.
- Minimum of one year of recent experience working in a medical office or facility.
- Ability to partner with teams in small to large practice groups.
- Considerable skill in communicating verbally, determining priorities, and organizing work.
- Ability to maintain an organized filing system.
- General working knowledge of PC software, including Excel, Microsoft Word, and EPIC.
- Computerized appointment scheduling experience.
- Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
