Amentum is seeking an HVAC Industrial Maintenance Technician III to become a vital part of our Operations & Maintenance Team.

This role is pivotal in delivering an intermediate level of proficiency in addressing work orders, diagnosing issues, and executing repairs on fixtures and systems within a manufacturing setting.

Operating with minimal oversight as a member of a self-directed work team, this multi-skilled position may involve machine repairs and general maintenance tasks, as well as assisting other licensed trades as required. A solid understanding of various equipment types and their applications relevant to maintenance and operations for the designated area is essential, along with the capability to work within machine tolerances. Additional maintenance tasks, including minor carpentry, painting, and sheet metal work, may also be necessary.

The HVAC Industrial Maintenance Technician III must possess the ability to identify and rectify safety-related concerns and conduct independent evaluations of equipment to pinpoint potential failures. General upkeep of equipment will also be part of the responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts scheduled maintenance on all building systems and related services for specific areas while being attentive and responsive to customer requirements.
  • Utilizes troubleshooting techniques on mechanical systems such as pumps, agitators, hydraulic systems, laboratory vacuum systems, RO/DI purified water systems, and compressed air and gas distribution systems to diagnose issues and implement repairs promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Develops and executes planned maintenance protocols, estimates job requirements, and manages spare parts inventory while keeping stock personnel informed about parts usage.
  • Assists in the installation and inspection of new equipment and servicing of installations.
  • Provides support to colleagues, contractors, vendors, project managers, building managers, and engineers as necessary to facilitate project and renovation efforts.
  • Adheres to all governmental, company, and industrial regulations, codes, and standards, including health and safety practices and permit systems.
  • Completes preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Responds to work orders and provides service and feedback to customers while ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Recommends improvements to maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Safely executes job functions, including following safety protocols such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to contribute to energy efficiency solutions.
  • Utilizes a range of tools, including hand tools, laptops, and diagnostic hardware to perform tasks.
  • Maintains a strict schedule to ensure success in assignments while demonstrating flexibility in daily activities and scheduling for customer benefit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified candidates who receive an offer must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • This position may require a valid Driver's License.

  • Security access badge acquisition at client locations may be necessary.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three years of maintenance experience in one of the following areas or a demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience: Industrial HVAC, Industrial Mechanical Machine Repair, or Automotive Repair.
  • Capability to work in aerial lifts or scissor lifts at heights of 30 feet or more.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Availability to work on holidays and weekends may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Some tasks may involve repetitive wrist movements.
  • Ability to walk extensively throughout facilities during a workday.
  • Capability to climb ladders and stairs as required during work activities.
  • Flexibility to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, and stretch during work hours.
  • Ability to differentiate colors related to wire color-coding.
  • Ability to read and comprehend information in various documents or displayed on a computer screen.
  • Ability to use various office equipment and operate a computer keyboard for data access, messaging, and document preparation.
  • Ability to attend meetings throughout the site and potentially travel to other Amentum, customer, and/or vendor locations, including some air travel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in person and through discussions, meetings, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer use, including the full Microsoft product line.
  • Ability to move light to medium weight materials into desks, filing cabinets, and other storage areas.
  • Ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner, even in stressful situations.

Special Requirements:

  • Must wear steel-toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to cope with job-related demands and maintain acceptable performance levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or trade school certification in Industrial Mechanical, HVAC, or a related field.
  • Experience working safely with 480-volt 3-phase electrical systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial facility mechanical equipment, including vacuum systems and RO/DI water systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing large commercial or industrial HVAC/R systems.
  • Experience addressing basic plumbing needs.
  • Working knowledge of various hand and power tools, air measuring instruments, refrigeration equipment, electrical meters, meggers, and shop equipment.
  • Experience in a CMMS environment.
