Senior Research Associate, Public Health Sciences

The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Senior Research Associate position. This role will play a key part in managing a research program across multiple disciplines and departments, with a focus on maternal and child health research. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Matthew Gurka and other investigators to develop and implement research initiatives, including lifestyle interventions, disparities research, community-based participatory research, implementation science, and interdisciplinary team science.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a research program with multiple disciplines and departments.
  • Work closely with Dr. Matthew Gurka and other investigators to develop and implement research initiatives.
  • Develop and implement research plans, protocols, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with project staff to ensure successful project completion.
  • Conduct research and provide data analysis and interpretation.
  • Develop and maintain research records and reports.

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree or master's degree with significant experience.
  • Strong interest and experience in community-based research and working with at-risk and diverse communities.
  • Data management skills (e.g., REDCap).
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lead small groups and work independently without supervision.
  • Experience working on federally or industry-funded research trials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in public health, clinical research, behavioral sciences, health sciences, psychology, sociology, or related field.
  • Experience with IRB protocols, data use agreements (DUAs), and other research administrative tasks.
  • Data analysis experience (quantitative and/or qualitative).

This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
