Postdoctoral Research Associate in Contagion Science

The Biocomplexity Institute at the University of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Contagion Science Program. This prestigious strategic research initiative is funded by the University of Virginia through its Prominence-to-Preeminence STEM Targeted Initiatives Fund.
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will have the opportunity to explore the application of computing and data sciences at the interfaces of computational modeling, public health and medicine, as well as social sciences. You will work closely with experienced principal investigators from the participating schools and the Biocomplexity Institute to develop a research roadmap that leverages new and existing theoretical frameworks, engineering techniques, and data science tools.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the creation and promulgation of a research roadmap, participate in unique learning and professional development experiences, and lead the organization of workshops and other program-relevant meetings. You will also support the collaboration of existing and potential program partners, including government agencies, industries, and researchers.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must hold a PhD in a Social/Behavioral Science, Epidemiology/Biology or a related field, with an emphasis on computational modeling, mathematical analysis, or a PhD in computer science/math/statistics/physics/data science with an application in social/behavioral/transdisciplinary science. You must also have programming fluency in a general-purpose programming language, such as Python, Julia, R, or C.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with diverse types of data sets, strong programming and data analytical skills, proven simulation/modeling/analysis experience, and evidence of prior work/interest in social or behavioral sciences are highly desirable. Additionally, strong candidates will have research interests in use cases such as epidemics and pandemics, social epidemiology, diffusion/containment of behaviors/information in large networks, public health policy, modeling and simulations, and/or interdisciplinary science.
