Position Overview:
The County of Los Angeles is seeking a qualified individual to oversee and conduct advanced investigations, assessments, and evaluations aimed at identifying and mitigating radiation risks. This role ensures adherence to local, state, and federal regulations concerning the use of X-ray technology and radioactive substances while leading a team of Radiation Protection Specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct intricate inspections and evaluations of radiation-emitting devices across various facilities, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Review and analyze architectural plans for proposed installations of X-ray and radioactive materials, ensuring adequate safety measures are in place.
- Utilize sophisticated radiation detection instruments and methodologies to assess compliance with established safety regulations.
- Prepare comprehensive reports detailing inspection findings, including necessary corrective actions for any identified violations.
- Provide expert consultation and training to healthcare professionals and the public regarding safe practices in radiation usage.
- Lead and mentor a team of Radiation Protection Specialists, fostering professional development and ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Manage the radiation exposure monitoring program, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of exposure levels.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations involving radiation incidents, providing guidance and support as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Possession of a valid certificate in diagnostic or therapeutic radiologic technology or nuclear medicine technology, or a health physics technology certificate from an accredited program, along with relevant experience in regulatory compliance and radiation safety.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to stand or walk for extended periods, perform physical tasks, and occasionally lift objects weighing over 25 pounds.
