Role Overview:

The Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for developing and executing radiation treatment plans utilizing advanced computational methods to ensure accurate delivery of prescribed radiation doses. This role requires collaboration with radiation oncologists to create optimal treatment strategies that prioritize patient safety and treatment efficacy.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and implement treatment plans using both manual and computer-assisted calculations to achieve prescribed radiation doses while protecting critical structures.
  2. Contour and identify normal and dose-limiting structures using various imaging data sets.
  3. Prepare reference images and localization markers for treatment verification, including advanced imaging techniques.
  4. Conduct simulations and tumor localization utilizing specified imaging devices.
  5. Fabricate custom shielding and beam modifying devices as necessary.
  6. Plan and create immobilization devices to enhance treatment accuracy.
  7. Collaborate with radiation therapists to ensure proper implementation of treatment plans.
  8. Perform precise calculations for dose delivery and maintain thorough documentation of all procedures.
  9. Support the radiation oncology team in maintaining safety protocols and conducting quality assurance on treatment planning systems.
  10. Assist in brachytherapy procedures, including treatment planning and dose calculations.
  11. Utilize radiation monitoring equipment to assess radioactivity levels.
  12. Educate and mentor students and residents in the principles of medical dosimetry.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
A valid and active certification as a Medical Dosimetrist from the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience as a Medical Dosimetrist will be considered advantageous.

Certificates and Licenses:
A valid Medical Dosimetrist certification and a California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method.

Physical Requirements:
This position may involve light physical effort, including occasional lifting and considerable ambulation.

Special Information:
All required licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted.

Examination Content:
The evaluation will focus on experience and qualifications relevant to the role. Candidates must achieve a passing score to be considered for placement on the eligible register.
