Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Diesel Mechanic/Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance services, as well as inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing vehicles and equipment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Execute assigned tasks with minimal supervision, utilizing written instructions and established procedures.
  • Conduct repairs and preventive maintenance services as required.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair various systems including electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes and initiate repairs.
  • Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and requisition necessary parts.
  • Complete all work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
  • Perform safety checks on vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Document repairs and parts usage using fleet maintenance software.
  • Assist senior mechanics with project work as needed.
  • Review and address repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with Corporate and OSHA standards.

Qualifications
  • Education: Not required.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience.

Certificates and Licenses
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.

Work Environment

This position requires:

  • Motor coordination with finger dexterity for most of the workday.
  • Physical effort in handling objects weighing less than a specified amount throughout the day.
  • Exposure to occupational risks such as cuts, burns, and toxic chemicals.
  • Working in an environment with dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.
  • A normal setting of a repair and maintenance shop.
