Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Specialist

Wonder Academy is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our school environment.

Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist will perform a wide range of custodial, maintenance, and lawn care duties to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe school environment. This includes cleaning building floors, gathering and emptying trash, servicing and cleaning restrooms, and making adjustments and minor repairs as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain building floors, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, and vacuuming.
  • Gather and empty trash, and maintain a clean and organized waste management system.
  • Service and clean restrooms, including cleaning and polishing fixtures, sinks, and toilets.
  • Make adjustments and minor repairs as needed, including replacing/adjusting bolts, screws, and light bulbs.
  • Mix and apply cleaning solutions, following specifications and regulations.
  • Steam-clean or shampoo carpets, and strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
  • Clean and restore building interiors damaged by normal wear and tear, using commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance checks, including oil and tire checks.
  • Monitor building security and safety, including locking doors and checking electrical appliance use.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or using hand trucks.
  • Clear and dispose of trash and debris from grounds, walkways/sidewalks, and curbs.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs and issues that may arise.
Requirements
  • High School Degree or GED.
  • Past custodial experience, building maintenance, and lawn care in a recreation/school/commercial setting is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Current CPR and first aid training preferred and willingness to undergo NCDCDEE Background Check and maintain state required employed file.
Working Conditions

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise. The position requires the ability to work safely and effectively in a variety of settings, including inclement weather conditions and high participant traffic areas.

The successful candidate will be able to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs or more unassisted), bend, stand, climb low to high heights, jog, and walk. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on customer service and attention to detail.
