The School of Engineering at Brown University is excited to announce an opportunity for a Lead Systems Engineer / Senior IT Infrastructure Specialist.
In this role, you will oversee, sustain, and enhance the computing infrastructure for the School of Engineering (SoE) and associated Active Directory domain systems. This includes software deployment, licensing management, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Your responsibilities will encompass the implementation and support of educational, research, and administrative systems and applications, ensuring that all security protocols, auditing measures, and recovery functions are functioning effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor system performance and provide insights for capacity planning.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and propose enhancements.
- Assist and mentor IT Support Consultants and other technical staff within SoE, including temporary staff, interns, and student workers.
- Evaluate software solutions from vendors and provide recommendations for procurement or development.
- Resolve complex technical issues and serve as a project manager when necessary.
- Author and maintain relevant documentation as required.
- Work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
Grade 10 Senior Systems Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
- 2-3 years of experience in systems administration.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Hyper-V Virtualization.
- Conceptual understanding of various technical architectures, security protocols, networking, middleware, SDLC, system imaging tools, Azure, and Intune.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including dump reading and trace analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Grade 11 Lead Systems Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
- 4-5 years of experience in systems administration.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with Hyper-V Virtualization.
- Expertise in Windows Operating Systems; basic to intermediate experience with Linux Operating Systems is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including dump reading and trace analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
