Job Summary:

The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant II to work in the Adult Psychiatry Clinic.

This is a unique opportunity to join a renowned academic medical center and contribute to the delivery of exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist licensed independent practitioners, RNs, and other licensed designees in the urgent care setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit.
• Facilitate the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families, and staff.
• Manage internal and external medical records to ensure accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.
• Administer routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment.
• Perform routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work, electrocardiograms, and x-ray work as needed.
• Identify vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
• Perform related clerical tasks, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments.

Requirements:

• Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program.
• Completion of a healthcare profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program, including pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology, and medication administration.

Working Conditions:

This is a part-time position, with 12 hours per week between Monday and Friday, no weekends, no holidays, and no call. The hourly rate is commensurate with experience.
