Job Summary:

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant II to work at the Psychiatry Clinic. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in supporting our patients and ensuring the smooth flow of patients through the clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support our Psychiatry patients by facilitating their care and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Assist in clinic with physical examinations, patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations.
  • Manage internal and external medical records to ensure accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.
  • Administer routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications as needed.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests, such as urinalysis and blood work, and assist with electrocardiograms and x-ray work as needed.
  • Identify vaccination needs for specific patient populations and perform related clerical tasks.
  • Assist in obtaining insurance prior authorizations and provide information to other departments as needed.

Requirements:

  • Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program.
  • Completion of a healthcare profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program.
