Position Overview:


The Clinical Operations Manager (COM) is a Registered Nurse tasked with overseeing and managing all clinical functions and daily activities within the unit for a continuous 24-hour period.

This role involves collaborating with the team to ensure comprehensive care for all patients within the unit. The COM is responsible for the daily distribution of resources and fosters the growth of effective work teams. This position operates under the direction of the Director of Nursing.
Operational Planning and Support

Engages in the development, modification, and enhancement of departmental strategic plans, both short-term and long-term, in partnership with the Director of Nursing.

Leads the creation and execution of unit-specific operational strategies to guarantee the efficient functioning of assigned nursing units and to facilitate hospital operations.

Manages the daily functions within assigned units, including staffing, clinical practices, resource management, quality assurance, and personnel oversight.

Guides the development and refinement of strategic educational plans aimed at promoting professional growth for both self and team members.

Ensures that staff members participate in educational opportunities.
Works in collaboration with physicians and Medical Directors to establish and implement the strategic goals of the unit(s).
Partners with other leadership and colleagues to encourage interdisciplinary initiatives, cooperation, and support for strategic objectives.
Emphasizes the significance of patient satisfaction and advocates for priorities that enhance performance. Achieves annual goals for improving patient satisfaction scores.
Exhibits strong organizational skills and effective time management by completing tasks within designated timeframes.

Maintains communication with assigned staff by conducting at least monthly meetings, providing minutes, and addressing related activities across all shifts as necessary.

Consistently demonstrates the adaptability required for efficient operations.
Serves on various committees within the Operating Unit and Nursing as requested.

Clinical Management

Accountable for coordinating the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all activities aimed at fulfilling the nursing care requirements of the patients served.

Ensures effective care coordination, including patient flow, and that hand-off communication aligns with the SBAR model.

Systematically reviews and participates in the enhancement of clinical nursing practices and standards of care in accordance with overall nursing guidelines, changes in patient demographics, and external standards.

Supports the patient care unit and Nursing Services in delivering high-quality, cost-effective patient care and holds staff accountable for the same.

Ensures that education and research are integral components of clinical practices within assigned responsibilities. Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure a comprehensive, patient-centered, outcome-driven approach to care. Identifies and proposes strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care and placement from admission through discharge.

In partnership with staff, establishes a clear process to ensure patient care assignments are based on staff competencies and patient care needs.

Maintains assignment records in accordance with record retention policies. Keeps clinical skills current through participation in direct patient care activities. Engages in the evaluation of clinical competency for staff and provides recommendations for retention and advancement.
