Job Summary:

The Diner Cook is responsible for the preparation and cooking of foodstuffs for service to residents, staff, and visitors. This role involves reviewing menus and production sheets, preparing food items, testing cooked foods, and ensuring sanitation and safety standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Review menus and production sheets to determine food quantities needed for regular and special diets.
  2. Prepare specified food items, as assigned.
  3. Test cooked foods by tasting and smelling samples.
  4. Ensure that sanitation and safety standards are met in the preparation, cooking, and production line stages of food production.
  5. Assist in maintaining meal census logs, serving temperatures, serving times, and other quality procedures.
  6. Assist in care and maintenance of kitchen equipment and notify supervisor of equipment in need of repair.
  7. Supervise food being cooked and ensure that food is held and served at correct temperature.
  8. Assist with preparation of and distribution of foods.
  9. Prepare cold foods and desserts for service prior to meals.
  10. Assemble food and drinks for snacks and deliver to designated area.
  11. Perform cleaning duties in kitchen and/or serving areas as scheduled and directed.

Requirements:

High school diploma required. Ability to understand and organize food preparation activities required. Knowledge of food preparation and production process, food protection principles, and ability to follow and prepare modified diets required. Ability to carry out cooking tasks at a safe and efficient level of performance required. Pride in quality of food and service necessary. High degree of personal cleanliness and good hygiene necessary. Health status suitable for work in food services required. Ability to follow verbal and written instruction and to communicate with residents required.

Work Environment:

Works in kitchen area. Subject to standing, walking, bending, and lifting heavy objects throughout workday. Heat or burns from work activities. Handling of sharp objects and equipment with sharp edges.

Shift: 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Weekends and holidays a must.
