Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Engineer to join our team at Northrop Grumman. As an Optical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing coatings and developing processes for high energy laser applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop coatings for high energy laser applications
  • Maintain and develop precision cleaning processes for laser crystals and optics
  • Monitor production yields and drive operational improvements
  • Train technicians on the execution of coating processes and the proper operation & maintenance of equipment
  • Maintain documents and records and provide regular reports
  • Provide technical support to the Sales group and provide technical advice to customers
  • Technical project management along with the ability to research, investigate and evaluate technical processes
  • Yield analysis and improvement based on sound engineering approaches
  • Support the manufacturing floor with on-the-floor presence, involvement and decisions
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Material Science, Optics, or related Engineering field with 0 years relevant experience
  • Knowledgeable in Optics or Optical Physics
  • Proficient with Thin Film design software such as OptiLayer, TFCalc, or Filmstar
  • Proficient with metrology associated with evaluating coating performance and quality
  • Demonstrates good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree is desirable
  • 2 years experience in Optical Thin Films preferred
  • Experience with vacuum technology, tooling design, applied chemistry, or related field is a plus
  • Experience in a job shop environment is a plus
