Lead Academic Advisor

We are seeking a highly motivated and student-centered Academic Advisor to join our team in the Division of Undergraduate Education. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success and retention of our undergraduate students. You will provide high-quality academic advising to students in an assigned cohort, including individual and group advising, and regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements, and policies/procedures. You will also serve as a general walk-in and/or appointment advisor for undergraduates as needed. Additionally, you will support the training and development of Academic Advising Assistants and Interns, and participate in the planning and development of team meetings, training, and activities in conjunction with advising staff, campus partners, and other constituents.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide high-quality academic advising to students in an assigned cohort, including individual and group advising, and regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements, and policies/procedures.
• Serve as a general walk-in and/or appointment advisor for undergraduates as needed.
• Support the training and development of Academic Advising Assistants and Interns, and participate in the planning and development of team meetings, training, and activities in conjunction with advising staff, campus partners, and other constituents.
• Participate in the coordination and implementation of orientation sessions for incoming students in a particular cohort or group, and provide 1:1 and group advising for new students regarding academic planning, policies, course requirements, and the process of registration.
• Participate in relevant training and provide instruction for a new student seminar class, and supervise, train, and evaluate an assigned teaching assistant.
• Participate in initiating, planning, and developing events and activities which build community and support academic success, and participate in one or more office committees.
• Participate in various Divisional and University programs and services, including training/staff development, campus events, special events, admissions open houses, search committees, and University-wide committees.
Requirements:
• Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related discipline.
• Three (3) years of full-time experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services in an educational setting.
• Experience coordinating projects, programs, and/or events.
• Excellent student service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related discipline.
• Experience at the college or university level working with undergraduate students.
• Academic advising experience in a college or university setting.
• Experience teaching student-development related courses, facilitating workshops or leading presentations.
• Experience interacting with a diverse student population in an academic environment.
