  • Analyze design performance through structural and thermal finite element analysis (FEA) and optical ray tracing simulations
  • Contribute to design reviews for optical and mechanical systems across the company's product lines
  • Develop manufacturing processes for the assembly and alignment of products
  • Characterize opto-mechanical components and systems for performance, reliability, and stability by formulating and executing structured test plans
  • Mentor junior opto-mechanical team members and help the team standardize designs and implement processes
  • Collaborate with the team to prototype features to seed and de-risk future detailed opto-mechanical designs
  • Solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations
  • Provide technical assistance for troubleshooting and diagnosing design quality problems

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, optical, or other relevant engineering field and at least 6 years of relevant experience. Master's degree or higher in mechanical, optical, or other relevant engineering field preferred
  • Technical experience should include opto-mechanical design and precision alignment of optical and laser systems, expert knowledge of SolidWorks and working experience with SolidWorks PDM, opto-mechanical fixturing in a controlled environment, and optical test equipment
  • Design of optomechanical systems to achieve desired performance subject to given time and cost constraints, systems engineering skills including gathering requirements from technical stakeholders and propagating high-level requirements to sub-systems and components, and proficient in MS Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively share information with technical and non-technical staff, and good collaboration skills, able to work in a team environment where engagement and participation are an expected part of successful job performance
