Job Summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to fill the role of Border Patrol Agent. As a Border Patrol Agent, you will play a critical role in enforcing U.S. laws and regulations at and near the Mexican and Canadian international land borders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to electronic sensor alarms and track down individuals attempting to cross the border illegally.
  • Interpret and follow tracks, marks, and other physical evidence to identify and apprehend smugglers and undocumented noncitizens.
  • Use infrared scopes during night operations to detect and apprehend individuals attempting to cross the border.
  • Respond to aircraft sightings and other anti-smuggling activities to prevent the smuggling of noncitizens and illegal narcotics.
  • Perform farm and ranch checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks to detect and prevent smuggling activities.
  • Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, watercrafts, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.

Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Be referred for selection prior to your 40th birthday (waiver for veterans' preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position).
  • Have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
  • Be eligible to carry a firearm.
  • Be willing to travel frequently, including extended domestic and foreign temporary duty assignments.
