Job Summary

Heritage Environmental Services is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Environmental Specialist to join our team. As an Environmental Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient handling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health and Safety: Ensure that Health and Safety is the top priority by following all policies, procedures, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Material Segregation: Assist in the segregation of chemicals by hazard class, packing compatible materials in appropriate containers, and preparing for transportation, while completing necessary paperwork per job.
  • Lab Pack Services: Determine and load supplies needed for job completion and travel to various industry, laboratory, and school sites to perform lab pack services.
  • Material Characterization: Assist in characterizing materials at field project sites.
  • Transportation: Follow proper placarding and load segregation requirements when transporting hazardous materials.
  • Client Relations: Develop good client relations by effectively communicating with customers.
  • Team Leadership: Direct Field Technicians/Drivers assisting with waste collection.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Have introductory knowledge of high hazard materials management/assessment and cylinder handling.
Requirements
  • Education: A four-year college degree in a science or environmental major is preferred, or 2+ years of related experience is required.
  • Experience: Prior lab packing or environmental waste experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety-sensitive position, requiring the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Good knowledge and understanding of all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the Environmental Services Industry are essential. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
  • Physical Requirements: Due to potential exposure to atmospheres/waste/materials, this position requires that you must be able to be clean-shaven at all times to don a respirator for your protection. You must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, DOT physical, and drug screen, and obtain a Class B CDL with a hazmat endorsement within 6 months of hire date. You must meet all Heritage Driving Qualifications and pass a Motor Vehicle Record search to company standards.
