Position Summary

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Financial Empowerment Advisor to enhance our initiatives. This role focuses on working with individuals who have experienced domestic violence, offering personalized financial guidance and facilitating group educational sessions on various financial literacy subjects. The Advisor will create both internal and external resources to establish a comprehensive Financial Empowerment Program aimed at assisting individuals in achieving financial independence and security.

My Sister's Place is a dedicated community of professionals, volunteers, and advocates striving to eliminate domestic violence. As the oldest domestic violence shelter in the area, we have been a vital part of the community's response to this critical public health challenge since 1979. Our organization uniquely provides a full spectrum of care, from emergency shelter to transitional and permanent housing. Our skilled team of case managers and counselors offers clinical support, case management, and extensive services to empower individuals to heal and thrive. We also engage in training, case consultation, and advocacy to mobilize communities in preventing violence and abuse.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing a Financial Empowerment Program that caters to all clients of My Sister's Place.
  • Overseeing and expanding existing financial empowerment initiatives, including our Fresh Start Fund and RISE Trust Unconditional Cash Transfer Program.
  • Conducting individualized financial counseling sessions, evaluating clients' financial situations, establishing objectives, and formulating tailored financial strategies.
  • Assessing client needs and creating metrics to evaluate success in promoting economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.
  • Identifying and cultivating partnerships to address program and client requirements.
  • Providing clients with referrals for additional financial aid, legal assistance, and community resources.
  • Maintaining precise and confidential client records and documentation.
  • Planning, organizing, and facilitating group workshops on a variety of financial literacy topics, such as Banking and Loans, Budgeting, Consumer Protection, Debt Management, Financial Health, Investing, Personal Bankruptcy, Personal Finance, Retirement Planning, Taxes, and Understanding Credit.
  • Modifying educational materials and teaching strategies to meet the unique needs and experiences of individuals affected by domestic violence, fostering a supportive and trauma-informed learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborating with colleagues, including the Workforce Development Specialist, and external organizations to ensure comprehensive support for clients.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in financial counseling, financial literacy education, or a related field.
  • Thorough understanding of financial literacy topics, including those mentioned above.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, social work, or a related discipline (master's degree preferred).
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic; capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including precise record-keeping and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, with a proven track record of working collaboratively and providing compassionate support to clients.
  • A mission-driven approach to financial literacy education, rooted in empathy and sensitivity to the diverse experiences of individuals affected by domestic violence.
