Job Title: Sustainable Development Officer - Partnerships and Advocacy

OCHA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sustainable Development Officer to join our team in the United Nations Office for Partnerships (UN Partnerships). The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the SDG campaign of the UN Partnerships and will report directly to the Chief of Section of Partnerships and Advocacy.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and analyze programme/project development and implementation, reviewing relevant documents and reports, and identifying problems and sustainable development issues to be addressed.
  • Perform consulting assignments, in collaboration with clients, by planning and facilitating events and campaigns on sustainable development issues, through public-private partnerships.
  • Research and analyze sustainable development issues, presenting information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Develop draft policy recommendations on sustainable development issues, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
  • Organize and prepare written outputs and speeches on sustainable development issues, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
  • Provide substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations on sustainable development issues.
  • Provide substantive support on sustainable development issues to intergovernmental bodies, Member States, external partners, and foundations.
  • Participate in or take the lead in specific inter-agency or expert task forces or working groups either internally or with outside parties.
  • Initiate and coordinate outreach activities, and develop communication products, etc., making presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Lead, implement, and/or participate in large, complex communication campaigns and initiatives, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials, media, and other parties.
  • Coordinate activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc).
  • Prepare and lead on the preparation of a diverse range of information products, social media content, speeches, and other inputs for presentations by senior staff on sustainable development issues.
  • Design, manage, and monitor the implementation of projects on sustainable development.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting.
Requirements:
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in sustainable development, international relations, economics, public policy, public administration, finance, or related field.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, policy-oriented work in a broad range of sustainable development issues is required.
  • Experience in developing complex global campaigns on SDGs is required.
  • Experience in leading research, data collection, and evaluation of SDG performance is required.
  • Experience in speech writing for senior officials with focus on advocating the SDGs is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
  • Experience in developing and editing social media content for SDG campaigns is desirable.
Language Requirements:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in both English and French is required. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
