Key Responsibilities

Requirements

Conditions of Employment Qualifications:

  • FOR THE GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate that you have successfully completed the basic education requirement.
  • FOR THE GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector with professional engineering experience understanding, demonstrating, and completing limited engineering or architectural designs and projects.
  • FOR THE GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector with professional engineering experience understanding, demonstrating, and completing limited engineering or architectural designs and projects.
  • FOR THE GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector with professional engineering experience researching, interpreting, and carrying out engineering assignments.
  • FOR THE GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector with professional engineering experience researching, interpreting, and carrying out engineering assignments.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Basic Education Requirement:

A degree in engineering is required. The program must lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET, or include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, and nature and properties of materials.

Alternatively, a combination of education and experience that furnishes a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering and a good understanding of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering may be acceptable.

Professional registration or licensure, a written test, specified academic courses, or a related curriculum may be substituted for specialized experience.

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows: successful completion of one full year of graduate education, successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, or a combination of education and applicable experience that equates to one year of experience.

Additional Information:

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
