Principal Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the University of Washington's Applied Physics Laboratory. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing complex mechanical systems for oceanographic applications.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and develop mechanical systems for oceanographic applications, including subsea pressure housings, mechanical frames, and cable termination systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical systems with electrical and software components.
- Develop and implement testing and validation procedures to ensure mechanical systems meet performance and safety requirements.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technicians to ensure successful project execution.
- Communicate technical information to stakeholders, including program managers, sponsors, and colleagues.
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on oceanographic applications.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with CAD software, including SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
