Position Summary

As a vital leader within our Accounting and Financial Reporting team, the Senior Construction Controller will collaborate with fellow team members, finance leaders, and operational staff to facilitate all facets of accounting, reporting, and analysis for the designated company or companies.

Compensation Package: Competitive salary, bonuses, ESOP, and wellness benefits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guide and mentor Assistant Controller(s) and Construction Administrator staff to ensure adherence to daily policies and cost accounting practices.
  • Oversee the preparation of individual and monthly combined contract statuses to assess the financial standing of all ongoing projects.
  • Manage the reconciliation of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash transactions, bank reconciliations, and purchase orders.
  • Handle tasks such as tracking license renewals, tax obligations, vendor onboarding, fixed asset management, and use tax accruals.
  • Review and post monthly journal entries to support accounting transactions and consolidation needs.
  • Provide accounting and reconciliation assistance to the respective company(s)/division(s) and their monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
  • Conduct monthly profit and loss reviews to identify necessary accruals, comparisons, and trend analyses.
  • Generate and analyze financial reports utilizing the Sage Accounting System (Timberline).
  • Perform and/or review general ledger account reconciliations to uphold internal control procedures.
  • Complete special project assignments and other duties as required.
  • Collaborate with the Division Manager to review and collect Accounts Receivable.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • Experience in the construction sector and familiarity with Percentage of Completion/Cost to Cost accounting is preferred.
  • General knowledge of construction insurance, bonding requirements, lien laws, and sales tax regulations for contractors is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Team-oriented individual willing to assist in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly convey issues to management as they arise.
  • Capable of making timely decisions under pressure and comfortable challenging existing processes to enhance effectiveness.
  • Adaptable to change, supporting and initiating organizational improvements.
  • Able to coach and mentor team members.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience Requirements
  • 3-5 years of prior experience as a controller or assistant controller is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the construction industry is required.
  • Managerial experience in public accounting will fulfill the experience requirement.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end closing process.
