HIMS is a critical patient care support department at UCLA Health, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of patient documentation in the clinical record.

The HIMS Patient Record Abstractor IV Specialist works collaboratively with the HIMS Management team to drive strategic goals, projects, and best practices across HIMS teams.

This role is integrated into assigned teams, identifying opportunities for improvement by focusing on workflows and processes, and leading teams toward successful outcomes as identified by the HIMS Director and HIMS Management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meticulously follow detailed direction and manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail is required for prolonged stretches of time
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Collaborate with physicians, hospital staff, and coworkers to achieve excellent oral and communication skills
  • Excellent research/problem-solving ability
  • Working knowledge of principles of performance/quality improvement is preferred
  • High school diploma or GED certificate is required, with a degree and RHIT or RHIA preferred
  • 5 years of experience is required

Requirements:

  • Previous HIMS experience is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and resolve routine issues without Manager support
  • Maintain accountability for work performance
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned or required
  • Willingness to participate in technological innovation as it occurs

Salary Range: $52.41 hourly
