Key Responsibilities:

The Chief Risk Officer will undertake essential duties including, but not limited to:

  1. Upholding the Credit Union's core values and service standards in fulfilling its mission.
  2. Fostering teamwork in all interactions and responsibilities.
  3. Maintaining confidentiality of member and staff information.
  4. Engaging in community service and representing the Credit Union at various events.
  5. Complying with legal requirements and internal policies.
  6. Developing and overseeing the ERM framework, including the three lines of defense model, while identifying, measuring, managing, reporting, and governing risks.
  7. Championing the ethical integrity of the Credit Union.
  8. Promoting a culture of compliance and working with training teams to address risk and compliance training needs.
  9. Conducting credit analysis and monitoring the loan portfolio to assess risk conditions.
  10. Reviewing and recommending lending policies that align with the Credit Union's growth goals and risk tolerance.
  11. Understanding business objectives and balancing risks through strategic development.
  12. Monitoring portfolio delinquency and charge-off rates to manage loan portfolio risk.
  13. Designing and implementing compliance activities across the organization.
  14. Establishing quality assurance systems to meet regulatory requirements.
  15. Ensuring compliance of loan and deposit products with internal policies and regulations.
  16. Overseeing collections activities to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  17. Building a cohesive risk data governance model and promoting informed risk-taking.
  18. Collaborating with the Chief Financial Officer on financial metrics and loan portfolio pricing.
  19. Working with the Chief Information Officer on cybersecurity and data privacy risks.
  20. Cooperating with the SVP/Corporate Oversight to align with audit committees.
  21. Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a best-in-class risk management framework.
  22. Staying updated on regulatory changes and advising departments accordingly.
  23. Responding to inquiries from regulatory bodies and the business community.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  2. Extensive experience in Enterprise Risk Management.
  3. Previous experience as a senior Compliance/Risk Officer in a financial institution with assets exceeding $10B.
  4. A minimum of 15 years in credit risk management and loan portfolio analysis.
  5. Advanced knowledge of regulatory compliance and operational requirements.
  6. Strong operational and management skills, including vendor relationship management.
  7. Experience collaborating with Boards of Directors and committees.
  8. Excellent networking and communication skills, with a focus on analytical abilities related to risk and reward.
  9. Ability to provide exceptional service in a demanding environment.
  10. Proficiency in prioritizing workload and managing multiple projects.
  11. Capability to consult with internal units and assist external regulatory agencies.
  12. Must be bondable.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Audit and Risk Management Committee and internally to the President and CEO.

Supervisory Role:
The Chief Risk Officer will supervise the SVP/Compliance and Risk, EVP/Credit Officer, Security and Safety Officer, and other positions as the ERM program expands.
