Job Overview:

This recruitment aims to create an 18-month eligibility list to address current and future job openings. The application period will conclude once a sufficient number of applications are received.

The role involves operating single and multi-engine aircraft for the transportation of departmental personnel and for airborne surveillance in traffic and criminal enforcement operations for the Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement entities, as necessary. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required. This classification may be held in either sworn or civilian status.

Key Responsibilities:

Candidates must have permanent status as a Fixed Wing Pilot I, with a minimum of three (3) years of service in this capacity with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, maintaining an overall performance rating of at least 'Standard' in the last 12 months, or possess equivalent experience in an external FAA Part 91, 135, or 121 operation, along with the following qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a high school diploma or GED.
- By the starting date, residency in the State of Arizona is required.
- A valid Arizona driver license must be obtained by the effective starting date.
- Must hold an FAA Airline Transport Pilot certification – Airplane Multi-engine Land.
- Must possess an FAA Commercial Pilot certification – Airplane Single Engine Land.
- An FAA First Class Medical Certificate is mandatory.
- A minimum of 2500 total flying hours is required, with at least 1000 hours as pilot-in-command.
- A minimum of 500 hours in multi-engine aircraft is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating King Air aircraft.
- Familiarity with Proline 21 and Garmin G1000 flight decks.
- CFI/II or Military equivalent experience.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

- Flexibility to work various hours, including weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, callouts, and overtime is essential.
- Willingness to work in diverse climates, temperatures, and weather conditions is required.
- Residency within 30 miles of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is necessary.
- No outside employment is permitted during the 12-month probationary period, including furloughs from FAR 121 or 135 operations; this does not apply to military duties or obligations.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Applicants must undergo an examination process. A polygraph and background investigation are mandatory for successful candidates. The Department of Public Safety promotes a drug-free work environment through pre-employment drug testing.
