Associate Coach for Women's Basketball Program

The Associate Coach for the Women's Basketball Program plays a vital role in supporting the Head Coach in the comprehensive management of an NCAA Division I women's basketball team. This includes evaluating and recruiting academically qualified prospective student-athletes, designing and executing training sessions, developing practice and game strategies, mentoring student-athletes, and facilitating their personal, academic, and athletic growth at Merrimack College. This full-time role reports directly to the Head Coach and adheres to NCAA Division I, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), and Merrimack College regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist the Head Coach with daily administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of a successful Division I program, providing leadership and guidance to the women's basketball team.
- Engage in the evaluation and recruitment of high-caliber student-athletes, including travel for recruitment and organizing on-campus visits.
- Contribute to the holistic development of student-athletes: academically, personally, and athletically.
- Participate in on-court coaching and instructional activities; aid in planning and conducting training sessions and practices.
- Analyze opposing teams and assist in reviewing game footage for educational purposes.
- Oversee team travel arrangements, including meals, practice schedules, and related logistics.
- Manage the scheduling of non-conference opponents.
- Organize and facilitate player, team, and coaching clinics.
- Plan and execute alumnae events and coordinate outreach strategies.
- Attend individual meetings with student-athletes alongside the Head Coach.
- Monitor academic performance and support the academic success of team members.
- Represent the program with the utmost professionalism, sportsmanship, and integrity.
- Promote and maintain a culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and mutual respect.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations, MAAC standards, and institutional policies.
- Participate in departmental initiatives, including staff meetings, compliance training, diversity, equity, and inclusion workshops, and other events.
- Uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity while representing Merrimack Athletics.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Prior coaching experience in women's basketball at the collegiate level.
- Strong understanding of and commitment to NCAA compliance.
- Proven skills in recruiting and talent assessment.
- Familiarity with video editing software, social media, and data management tools.
- Experience in supporting the academic and overall well-being of student-athletes.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and administrative abilities; adept at prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Preferred collegiate basketball playing experience.
