Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Automation Engineer to join our Site Services team at Genentech. As a key member of our Facility Systems & Plant Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining critical automation and technology infrastructure for a portfolio of 50+ buildings and ~6 million square feet of space.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as Technical System Owner (TSO) for a wide range of automation platforms, control systems, and system applications.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of Building Automation Systems (BAS) using Siemens Desigo, ALC, and Aveeva PI technologies.
  • Conduct system performance analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide essential system support in a 24x7 environment, identifying and resolving hardware and software application issues.
  • Lead and maintain server infrastructure, including system patching, upgrade, backups, operating procedures, and system manuals.
  • Establish work priorities and timelines under limited supervision.
  • Develop and lead vendor-partner relationships, support contracts, and vendor resources.
  • Serve as a mentor to develop peers and energetic engineers.
Requirements
  • Over 12 years of experience designing and supporting BAS-specific automation systems in manufacturing or critical operations environments.
  • Recent experience in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong hands-on technical experience in BAS, networks, and data systems, including Siemens Desigo CC, BBMD configuration, and ALC WebCTRL.
  • Experience with industrial networks and communication protocols, such as TCP/IP, Windows Networking, OPC, BACnet, and MODBUS.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with Windows-based programming, IIS Web Application Configuration, and data management.
  • An understanding of cGMP regulations and Good Engineering Practices (GEP).
