Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead our Product space focusing on Formulations and workflow support within the Research business unit at Moderna. This role offers a unique opportunity to merge scientific expertise with digital product management skills, overseeing the strategy, development, and support of critical software products used in our innovative research environment. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in research science, combined with proven digital product management experience.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Product Manager, you will:

  • Develop and articulate a clear vision for software products that support scientific research, aligning product strategies with business objectives and scientific goals.
  • Lead cross-functional teams comprising of software engineers, discovery science team representatives, and data science leads, to deliver products that transform scientific data into actionable insights.
  • Manage the product lifecycle from concept through development, deployment, and refinement, ensuring the products meet the high standards required in a scientific research environment.
  • Craft and maintain product roadmaps, prioritize product features, and balance market needs with practical implementation strategies.
  • Translate complex scientific needs into detailed technical requirements that drive software development, facilitating the formulation and delivery of high-value solutions.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators to evaluate product effectiveness and impact on research outcomes.
  • Engage regularly with stakeholders to ensure continuous alignment of the product with business needs and user expectations.
  • Champion agile methodologies, encouraging iterative development and responsive adjustments based on feedback and changing requirements.
  • Serve as the primary communicator and liaison between the scientific SMEs consuming our products and the Digital team generating them, ensuring clear understanding and collaboration across the organization.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in a hard science (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific field).
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, specifically in digital products within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Demonstrated success in leading product development in a research-focused field.
  • Strong understanding of Agile development methodologies and product lifecycle management.
Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Direct experience as a research scientist in the biotech sector is highly desirable.
  • First-hand experience in Product Management operating principles and tools (JIRA, Persona Definitions, Road mapping, and the hierarchy of Initiative:Epic:Story:Task).
  • Proven ability to navigate the complexities of developing software products that comply with scientific needs and requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • An innovative, problem-solving mindset, with a track record of translating research challenges into successful digital solutions.
