Job Summary:
The Learning Systems Administrator is responsible for the daily management and support of academic technologies, which include the Learning Management System (LMS), EZproxy, and Turnitin. This role serves as the primary resource for resolving Tier 1 and Tier 2 issues faced by faculty, staff, and students, collaborating with vendor support when necessary.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities:
LMS Management:
Collaborate with the Office of the Registrar and Software Developer to oversee and troubleshoot the integration of the LMS with the Student Information System (SIS). Work alongside institutional stakeholders to incorporate new technologies into the LMS, providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance as required.
Assist instructors and teaching assistants in implementing and maintaining non-English courses within the LMS, such as German, Korean, Chinese, and Spanish. Manage the addition of special users to the LMS, including Teaching Assistants and Visiting Scholars. Create and maintain course shells and enrollments outside of standard terms, and archive or delete courses as necessary to comply with space requirements.
Generate custom reports utilizing LMS data and maintain the LMS test environment to evaluate the impact of new technologies on campus operations.
EZproxy Management:
Work in conjunction with the Digital Resources Librarian to ensure access to online subscription databases for faculty, staff, and students via EZproxy. Configure and maintain subscription database stanzas for EZproxy, collaborating with database vendors as needed.
Turnitin Administration:
Manage the institution's Turnitin account through the online dashboard, providing specialized assistance to faculty regarding course duration limits and roster synchronization.
Additional Responsibilities:
Engage in the development and implementation of academic technology policies and standards. Perform necessary upgrades and apply patches to academic technology applications. Troubleshoot and administer academic servers, including Microsoft Windows servers that host academic technologies. Maintain documentation for faculty, staff, and students, and provide one-on-one training on the use of academic tools.
Skills / Requirements:
Possess certifications related to LMS and other academic technologies. Proficient in cURL, HTML, and CSS, with the ability to utilize Microsoft SQL. Capable of writing and maintaining technical documentation, and explaining technical concepts in layman's terms. A solid understanding of instructional design principles is preferred, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Strong organizational skills and a passion for customer service are essential.
Qualifications / Education:
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a college degree preferred. Extensive experience in change management within an IT environment is essential, along with administration and troubleshooting of Windows servers and LMS environments. Experience managing an institution-wide Turnitin account and administering an EZproxy server is also required. Successful completion of background checks may be necessary. Physical requirements include the ability to perform manual tasks and lift up to 20 pounds as needed. Regular attendance and punctuality are expected.
