Role Summary

A Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Architect plays a pivotal role in formulating, executing, and sustaining robust business continuity strategies that guarantee the resilience and recovery of an organization’s operations amidst disruptions or emergencies. This position is essential for protecting the company’s assets, data integrity, and overall operational processes.

Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Architecture
  • Develop and assess technical documentation for the Information System Contingency Plan (ISCP).
  • Provide a comprehensive technical viewpoint on the ISCP.
  • Serve as a crucial link between technical and non-technical discussions.
Business Continuity Planning
  • Formulate, execute, and uphold business continuity and disaster recovery plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct business impact analyses (BIAs) to pinpoint essential business functions, dependencies, and potential risks.
  • Devise strategies to alleviate risks and ensure operational continuity during and following disruptions.
Risk Assessment and Management
  • Carry out regular risk assessments to uncover vulnerabilities within the organization’s infrastructure, processes, and systems.
  • Collaborate with various departments to implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
BCP Architecture Design
  • Design and document the overarching BCP architecture, encompassing backup, recovery, and failover strategies.
  • Ensure alignment of BCP architecture with the organization’s IT infrastructure and business processes.
  • Work closely with IT teams to integrate disaster recovery solutions into existing systems.
Incident Response and Crisis Management
  • Coordinate response efforts during actual incidents, ensuring recovery efforts are executed in accordance with the BCP.
  • Act as a primary contact during crises, providing leadership and guidance for effective recovery.
  • Review and revise the BCP post-incident to incorporate lessons learned.
Compliance and Reporting
  • Ensure BCP plans meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management regarding BCP readiness, testing outcomes, and incident response results.
  • Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory evaluations.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Engage with business unit leaders to ensure comprehensive coverage of all critical functions within the BCP.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners to incorporate third-party services into continuity plans.
  • Provide training and support to staff regarding BCP processes and procedures.
QualificationsEducational Background
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Management, or a related discipline. A Master's degree is advantageous.
Experience
  • Significant experience in business continuity planning, disaster recovery, or risk management.
  • Prior experience in IT architecture or systems engineering is highly desirable.
Certifications
  • Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or similar credentials are strongly preferred.
Skills & Technical Proficiency
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure, cloud computing, and network security.
  • Experience with disaster recovery tools and software.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and their relation to business continuity.
