Position Overview

United Global Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide advanced technical guidance and leadership in the field of mechanical engineering.

This position is an onsite role with a 4-Day Work Week. As an Engineering Discipline Lead within the Engineering Programs Group, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of relevant codes and standards to deliver expert advice in mechanical engineering, particularly focusing on piping design and BPV code compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough design and technical evaluations of new projects, significant facility upgrades, and various technical documentation as dictated by established procedures.
  • Formulate, execute, and oversee discipline-specific processes, procedures, and standards pertinent to engineering operations.
  • Stay informed about and evaluate updates to Department of Energy (DOE) regulations, national standards, and industry consensus codes relevant to your area of expertise.
  • Influence engineering practices across the Tank Operating Contract (TOC) to ensure adherence to best practices in your discipline.
  • Represent the TOC by providing authoritative technical recommendations within your field of expertise.
  • Maintain technical proficiency and remain updated on tools, methodologies, and standards relevant to mechanical engineering.
  • Assist operational teams and project delivery in identifying suitable discipline-specific design inputs and engineering processes.
  • Build and sustain relationships with external subject matter experts and suppliers to enhance in-house expertise as needed.
  • Lead and advocate for initiatives aimed at improving discipline-specific processes.
  • Educate and guide the organization on technical requirements and challenges related to your discipline.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 12 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Current certification as a Registered Professional Engineer (PE), preferably in the State of Washington.
  • In-depth knowledge and proficiency in applicable codes and standards, particularly those related to piping and vessel design, including ASME B31 series and ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Extensive understanding of design and testing requirements as per code.
  • Experience in nuclear safety analysis and safety basis processes.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and preventing water hammer damage in piping systems.
  • Experience with B31 Unlisted Component evaluations.
  • Familiarity with fluid flow and thermal analysis challenges.
  • Knowledge of piping system analysis software, including AutoPipe.
  • Prior experience with TOC procedures and standards.
  • Experience with Hose-in-Hose Transfer Lines (HIHTL) design, operation, and disposal.
  • Participation as a member of an ASME code committee is advantageous.
Work Schedule

The work hours for this position are from 6 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday.
