Job Summary:

The Conroe Independent School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team. As a School Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive health services to students, promoting health education, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and medical professionals to ensure the well-being of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff, adhering to district policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students, notifying parents of accidents or illnesses and securing medical care when necessary.
  • Coordinate the administration of medications to students at school, following district policies and procedures.
  • Perform screening procedures as required by the Texas Department of Health, Texas Educational Agency, and district policy, making referrals as necessary.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluations of the campus health program, making changes based on findings.
  • Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
  • Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students, serving as a liaison between the school, physicians, parents, and community.
  • Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals, working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed.
  • Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees.
  • Participate in the assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Make home visits to help with student health problems, with permission from the principal.
  • Communicate regularly with the principal and health services coordinator regarding health services issues.
  • Review and evaluate immunization records, enforcing procedures to ensure proper program administration according to district policy.
  • Supervise and train nurse aides in clinic procedures and responsibilities, following district policy.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
  • Report potential health and safety hazards to the principal.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain certification in CPR/AED, vision and hearing screening.
  • Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Requirements:

  • Two years of nursing experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Certified by the Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening (obtain within 60 days).
  • CPR/AED Certification.
  • Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures.
