Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

This role is an entry-level, full-time non-exempt position under the direct oversight of the Facilities Superintendent. The individual will engage in a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the upkeep and repair of municipal buildings and facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnose and rectify maintenance concerns across municipal facilities.
  • Follow the preventative maintenance schedule diligently throughout all facilities.
  • Replace air and water filters as specified in the maintenance plan.
  • Conduct ceiling tile replacements as necessary.
  • Perform painting tasks on municipal properties, including interiors, exteriors, handrails, and light poles.
  • Clear ice and snow from public walkways and parking areas.
  • Execute minor carpentry and plumbing tasks.
  • Report any mechanical issues with the maintenance vehicle; ensure the vehicle is stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance calls from staff, addressing issues such as water leaks or spills.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in public facilities, shop areas, and storage locations, ensuring equipment is secured at the end of the workday.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and resolving facility-related issues.
  • Assist in training new staff on operational practices and adherence to policies and standards.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and operations.
  • This position requires periodic on-call availability throughout the year.
  • Occasionally perform general custodial duties in public buildings.
  • Support the setup and dismantling of special events.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in construction-related skills such as carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, roofing, and welding.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities for addressing maintenance challenges.
  • Administrative skills for managing supply orders, maintaining records, and scheduling maintenance tasks.
  • Physical capability to lift, move, and handle equipment effectively.
  • Endurance to manage extended periods of standing or walking.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for discussing maintenance matters.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A High School Diploma or GED is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regular exposure to various weather conditions, including severe conditions.
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, bend, kneel, squat, and twist.
  • Exposure to airborne dust and high noise levels.
  • Frequent climbing of ladders up to 12 feet in height.
  • Working on slippery surfaces.
  • Handling toxic substances as necessary.
  • Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds, including overhead lifting.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces and perform repetitive motions.
  • Continuous standing, frequent walking, and various physical movements using tools.
