Job Summary

This position works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, providing patient care and support services in a healthcare setting. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with individual activities of daily living and certain treatments for patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Perform general secretarial and clerical duties as needed.
  • Document patient information, treatments, and observations on the patient chart.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly unit, monitoring and managing the milieu to ensure patient safety.
  • Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating professionalism and courtesy at all times.
  • Participate in staff meetings, performance improvement initiatives, and educational offerings as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must hold an internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in the state of Michigan or completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an Accredited Registered Nurse Program, or a Medical Assistant with the following: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR equivalent Medical Assistant Credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, etc.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 1 month of hire or transfer.
  • Fingerprinting within 30 days of hire or transfer into position.
  • Recipient Rights training within 30 days of hire and annually.
  • iChat annually on Hire Date.
  • Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees who are in this position on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete this certification).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in long term care, acute inpatient services, or inpatient mental health.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death. The ideal candidate will be able to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
