Under limited supervision, you will undertake professional auditing responsibilities. You may serve as the lead auditor for various audits or special projects as directed by the Internal Audit Director. Your role will involve testing the accuracy and reliability of financial records, verifying transactions, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of management control systems.

Your duties will include conducting thorough preliminary reviews of areas slated for audit, which involves gathering operational information and documenting internal controls. You will prepare and draft working papers, summaries, and audit programs in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards and Internal Audit Procedures. You will plan audits of varying complexity, establish schedules, and prioritize tasks. Additionally, you will prepare audit findings and reports, interview selected personnel, and collaborate with agency and division heads regarding audit outcomes and recommendations. Follow-up with management on the implementation of audit recommendations will also be part of your responsibilities.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree and professional experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis.

Agency Additional Requirements: A bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, economics, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered on a year-to-year basis in lieu of education upon Human Resources approval. A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible auditing experience is required. You should possess extensive knowledge of accounting, auditing, and management principles. Familiarity with the rules, laws, and regulations governing state agencies is essential. You must be able to analyze and interpret complex financial data and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The ability to conduct operational, compliance, financial, and performance audits with minimal supervision is necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required. You should be capable of quickly learning the operations of a specific division/program area and collaborating with management to develop improvements. Adaptability to changing priorities is crucial. Confidentiality is mandatory. A valid SC driver's license is required, and some travel may be necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) is preferred but not mandatory.
