Job Summary

The Shop/Field Truck Mechanic is a critical role that requires a strong mechanical aptitude and excellent customer service skills. As a member of the Niece Equipment team, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic tests, repairing and maintaining trucks, and providing high-quality field services to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Run diagnostics on vehicles to identify issues and determine the best course of action
  • Complete truck repair and maintenance work in accordance with factory and industry standards
  • Repair malfunctioning components and replace worn-out parts
  • Change hydraulic fluids, oil, filters, water pumps, and other essential fluids
  • Drive trucks before and after repairs to ensure they are safe and operational
  • Perform basic to intermediate repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision
  • Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components to factory specifications
  • Test and verify the proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
  • Prepare and complete job-related documents, including service reports and customer records
  • Maintain service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs as required by DOT
  • Plan and execute methods and sequences of performing assigned repairs to minimize rework
  • Work safely at all times and adhere to all safety policies and company procedures
  • Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in good, clean working condition
  • Keep a clean and organized work area
  • Communicate job progress with the Service Manager, team, and customers as needed
Requirements
  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Self-starter with strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work closely with other team members to meet company goals
  • Ability to perform responsibilities at customer job sites with minimal supervision
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment in the field and on customer job sites
  • Ability to communicate in a written format clearly and concisely
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic Diesel Mechanic with 2-3 years of experience
  • Diesel Certification a plus
  • Heavy Machinery and Heavy Trucks a plus
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move items or bulky objects up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to perform repeated motions of reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing beside, onto, and under a variety of heavy equipment
  • Ability to work inside and in an outside environment with inclement weather conditions
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work overtime and/or Saturdays based on customer demand or as needed
  • Ability to travel or make overnight stays on or near job sites when required
  • Ability to work alone onsite and offsite
  • Ability to work under trucks and to climb heights (ladders, on top of diesel trucks) and balance (on top of truck, ladder, etc.)
