The Avionics Systems Technician I is responsible for the adjustment, repair, and replacement of electrical wiring and avionics systems within aircraft. This role involves maintaining and servicing various aircraft components, including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, performing necessary services such as flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Utilizes technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to identify equipment malfunctions.
  • Employs expertise to restore equipment functionality and condition.
  • Applies comprehensive technical skills to resolve moderate to complex issues by interpreting technical documentation, including blueprints and manufacturer manuals.
  • Oversees the jacking and towing of aircraft, ensuring that all work is completed satisfactorily. May perform engine and airframe component servicing at line stations, making repairs as needed to maintain aircraft safety.
  • May be tasked with documenting entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Prioritizes workload effectively to adhere to project schedules.
  • Receives technical guidance from supervisors or senior technicians and may lead teams in executing complex aircraft-related tasks.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions in aircraft structures, landing gear, flight surfaces, controls, anti-icing systems, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems to ensure aircraft safety.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft avionics systems, troubleshooting, repair procedures, and parts replacement.
  • Familiarity with specialized aircraft tools.
  • Working knowledge of avionics systems, including maintenance parameters, operational limitations, and technical orders.
  • Understanding of military publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics is essential.
  • Ability to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in physically demanding positions.
  • A minimum of three years of aviation maintenance experience, with at least two years of rotary wing aircraft experience and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS).
  • All experience must be within the last six years.
  • A valid A&P license is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Mechanics working on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Must provide personal tools/toolbox, with tools shadowed and PID etched.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for mission requirements.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
  • Must be eligible for facility credentials/authorization.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization.

Preferred/Physical Qualifications:

  • Ability to frequently lift parts and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds, with heavy lifting primarily assisted by mechanical devices.
  • Work is conducted in a moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated aircraft maintenance hangar, with potential outdoor work.
  • Must be prepared to respond to a variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions.
  • Regularly required to stand, use hands for handling, and communicate effectively.
  • Frequent walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, or balancing may be required.
  • Exposure to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft, as well as fumes or airborne particles, may occur.
  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work specifications is advantageous.
