Certified Respiratory Therapist CRT

Under general supervision, the Certified Respiratory Therapist CRT initiates, assesses, and evaluates all forms of respiratory therapy, including bronchodilators, chest physical therapy, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive and invasive ventilator care. The CRT demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities- Verifies and signs all new orders for respiratory care, ensuring they coincide with current departmental policy.
- Recognizes, interprets, and records signs and symptoms of respiratory dysfunction and medication side effects, particularly those requiring notification of a physician.
- Initiates and maintains cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other life-support procedures, ensuring adequate airway management and assisting with intubation.
- Prevents contamination and transfer of infection through appropriate aseptic techniques.
- Knows the mechanics of ventilation and ventilator function, as well as principles of airway maintenance, including endotracheal and tracheotomy care.
- Effectively and safely uses equipment for administering oxygen and other therapeutic gases and for providing humidification, nebulization, and medication.
- Knows principles of arterial blood gas analysis, acid-base balance, and demonstrates competence in obtaining arterial blood gas samples.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification or must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- CRT licensed through NBR.
- Current license with the Texas Medical Board.
- 1 year experience required; new grads will be considered based on clinical rotation experience.
