As a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) at HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake, you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of healthcare professionals and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Initiate, assess, and evaluate all forms of respiratory therapy, including bronchodilators, chest physical therapy, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive and invasive ventilator care.
  • Exercise technical knowledge in respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology, as well as the design and operations of all respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Verify and sign all new orders for respiratory care, ensuring they coincide with current departmental policy.
  • Recognize, interpret, and record signs and symptoms of respiratory dysfunction and medication side effects, particularly those that require notification of a physician.
  • Use equipment for administering oxygen and other therapeutic gases, as well as providing humidification, nebulization, and medication.
  • Know and understand the principles of arterial blood gas analysis, acid-base balance, and demonstrated competence in obtaining arterial blood gas samples.
  • Know the operating principles of equipment and all safety aspects related to equipment and gases, including the control of electrical, flammable, explosive, and mechanical hazards.
  • Know the procedures for the proper cleaning and care of departmental equipment.
  • Accurately record therapy and the results of treatment in the patient medical record.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and perform annual clinical competencies in drawing arterial blood gases from radial, brachial, and femoral sites.
  • Assist in the orientation and education of respiratory care students.
  • Act as a clinical resource to all hospital staff in respiratory care.
  • Report all operational problems, patient complaints, and physician issues to the supervisor.
