Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Certified Respiratory Therapist to join our team at HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being.

Responsibilities
  • Initiate, assess, and evaluate all forms of respiratory therapy, including bronchodilators, chest physical therapy, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive and invasive ventilator care.
  • Exercise technical knowledge in respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology, as well as the design and operations of all respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Recognize, interpret, and record signs and symptoms of respiratory dysfunction and medication side effects, particularly those that require notification of a physician.
  • Initiate and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other life-support procedures, ensuring adequate airway management and assisting with intubation.
  • Prevent contamination and transfer of infection through appropriate aseptic techniques.
  • Know the mechanics of ventilation and ventilator function, as well as the principles of airway maintenance, including endotracheal and tracheotomy care.
  • Effectively and safely use equipment for administering oxygen and other therapeutic gases and for providing humidification, nebulization, and medication.
  • Know and understand the principles of arterial blood gas analysis, acid-base balance, and demonstrated competence in obtaining arterial blood gas samples.
  • Know the methods that assist in the removal of secretions from the bronchial tree, such as hydration, breathing and coughing exercises, postural drainage, therapeutic percussion and vibration, and mechanical clearing of the airway through proper suctioning technique.
  • Recognize and attend to the psychosocial needs of patients and their families.
  • Know the operating principles of the equipment and all safety aspects related to equipment and gases, including the control of electrical, flammable, explosive, and mechanical hazards.
  • Know the procedures for the proper cleaning and care of the departmental equipment.
  • Accurately record therapy and the results of treatment in the patient medical record.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and perform annual clinical competencies in drawing arterial blood gases from radial, brachial, and femoral sites, which includes punctures and a-lines.
  • Demonstrate through initial and annual competencies the ability to competently use non-invasive and invasive ventilation in all modes of ventilation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to properly utilize good organizational and time management skills to maximize productivity.
  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel.
  • Assist in the orientation and education of respiratory care students.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Act as a clinical resource to all hospital staff in respiratory care.
  • Report all operational problems, patient complaints, and physician issues to the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Advanced Cardiac Life or must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • CRT licensed through NBRC.
  • Current license with the Texas Medical Board.
  • 1 year experience required.
