Veterinary Student Externship Opportunity at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists

At Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists, we are committed to providing veterinary students with a valuable clinical experience that complements their academic education. Our externship program is designed to give students hands-on experience in a variety of specialties, including Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Exotics, and Diagnostic Imaging.
We understand that travel and lodging expenses can be a significant burden for students. To make our externships more accessible, we offer stipends to externs to help offset these costs (unless prohibited by the veterinary school you are attending).
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for our externship program, you must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school. Priority scheduling is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit. You must also provide proof of professional liability insurance. Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists has two state-of-the-art facilities, located in Buzzards Bay and Dennis, on iconic Cape Cod. We offer 24/7 care with a highly skilled support team and specialists in various fields. Let us know if you'd like to spend time with multiple specialties or focus on a particular area.
Species Treated:
We treat dogs, cats, and exotics. Our services include endoscopy, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, emergency & critical care, cardiology, internal medicine, anesthesiology, dermatology, exotics, ultrasound, and CT.
What to Expect:
During your externship, you can expect to actively participate in cases and further your development towards becoming a veterinarian. You will be supervised by an experienced veterinarian and skilled support staff, who will serve as your mentors. We encourage active participation from externs, introduce them to our clients, and truly make them part of our team. Listening to patient history, conducting a preliminary exam, and formulating a plan for diagnostics and treatment are a great way to put your education to the test and help prepare you for the real-world of veterinary medicine.
