About the Role

Aspire Bakeries, a leading North American baking company, is seeking an experienced and motivated Director - Associate General Counsel to provide vital assistance and strategic thought partnership to the General Counsel at the Company's corporate headquarters.

This role reports directly to the General Counsel and will be responsible for assisting in a wide range of legal matters for Aspire Bakeries's locations throughout the United States and Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Legal Guidance and Support: Offer expert legal advice and cross-functional support to internal stakeholders, primarily focusing on real estate, commercial, marketing, and privacy law, to achieve the Company's business objectives.
  • Real Estate Portfolio Management: Develop and manage Aspire Bakeries's real estate portfolio, including tracking of applicable deadlines and negotiation of complex commercial leases.
  • Contract Review and Negotiation: Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of contracts, specifically manufacturing/sales, procurement, and IT service agreements.
  • Marketing and Privacy Compliance: Provide legal guidance and support to the Company's marketing team and maintain subject matter expertise to ensure compliance with privacy requirements.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research and analysis on complex issues as directed by the General Counsel.
  • Policies and Procedures: Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance across the organization.
  • Outside Counsel Management: Manage and oversee outside counsel and legal vendors as needed.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions: Provide M&A support and oversight when needed.
  • Culture and Compliance: Foster a culture of integrity and legal compliance throughout the organization and stay updated on regulatory developments within and outside the company.
  • Thought Partnership: Provide thought partnership to the General Counsel in enhancing the Legal Department and promoting its prominence internally and externally.
Requirements
  • Bar Membership: Member of the California State Bar in good standing.
  • Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7 + years of experience working in a nationally recognized law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Skills: Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to effectively and confidently communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal, stakeholder management and collaboration skills to support working within cross-functional teams.
