Job Title: Legal Counsel

Job Summary:

Cesna is seeking a highly skilled and experienced attorney to join its Legal team as Legal Counsel. The successful candidate will report to the General Counsel and will be based in New York City. This is a great opportunity for an attorney who wants to expand responsibilities across a wide variety of legal matters, including commercial contracts, data protection, and intellectual property, in addition to their main responsibilities of negotiating and drafting agreements and contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiating and Drafting Agreements: Negotiate, draft, and review a wide range of commercial agreements and contracts for the company, including master services, licensing, vendor engagement, distribution, software/SaaS, technology platform arrangements, social media and marketing services, and other material agreements affecting the business.
  • Data Protection and Privacy: Develop and oversee data protection and privacy compliance program governing the collection and use of personal information, and assist internal teams to ensure that privacy legal requirements are incorporated into business processes and operations and contractual arrangements.
  • Legal Advice and Research: Advise on current and future privacy laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement actions, and other related issues as they apply to our business, and research and anticipate legal issues that could impact the company.
  • Training and Coordination: Provide training to the company on legal topics, and coordinate as necessary with corporate and global legal colleagues.

Requirements:

  • Education: Juris Doctor from a top ABA accredited law school.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience as an attorney at a law firm and/or in-house at a mid-size company in commercial transactions, data privacy, direct-to-consumer, and e-commerce, with experience at a consumer products/cosmetics company being a plus.
  • Skills: Broad-based transactional experience supporting a consumer business, including drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements and developing and handling templates and playbooks, experience advising on US privacy issues, including state comprehensive privacy laws, and knowledge of intellectual property and regulatory matters relating to cosmetics.
