Senior Blood Bank Technologist

Overview
As a Senior Blood Bank Technologist, you will be responsible for executing routine and specialized technical procedures within the blood bank, ensuring the laboratory operates effectively. You will collaborate with team members to coordinate and implement essential activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the daily functions and tasks of the department, adhering to established protocols and under the guidance of the Laboratory Manager. This includes verifying the validity and precision of test outcomes produced by staff, maintaining an adequate supply inventory, and aiding in the calibration of laboratory instruments.
  • Oversee, allocate, and assess the work of section personnel to guarantee timely completion of required tasks and quality service delivery, as directed by the Laboratory Manager. This involves making effective work assignments, delegating responsibilities, setting priorities, and redirecting staff as necessary. You will also audit staff work to ensure adherence to quality standards and assist in evaluating employee performance.
  • Exhibit the knowledge and skills necessary to perform Medical Technologist (MT) functions as required. This includes conducting blood bank tests, preparing blood samples for diagnostic analysis, and determining specimen acceptability through visual inspections. You will document any unacceptable specimens according to established policies.
  • Address complaints, conflicts, or operational challenges as they arise, and inform the manager of any issues that require further attention.
  • Engage and collaborate with others in a customer-focused and courteous manner, promoting patient and customer satisfaction while adhering to conduct standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and files for administrative and compliance purposes, ensuring adherence to departmental policies and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure the maintenance of equipment and supplies, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor and upholding a clean and safe environment for both patients and staff.
  • Utilize patient computer systems to enter and retrieve patient data and laboratory results, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to patient and hospital information.
  • Participate in continuous training and education, responding to opportunities for workplace improvement and engaging in performance enhancement activities.
  • Assist in the orientation and supervision of new staff members and students during their training in patient care, treatment, and services.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Technology program meeting CLIA and state requirements.
  • Qualified by education, training, or experience to work with various patient populations.
  • MLT-Medical Lab Technician (ASCP) TN licensure as Medical Lab Technologist - Immunohematology or Medical Lab General upon hire.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Medical Technologist with specific expertise in Blood Bank.
