Inpatient Coding Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our team at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR. As an Inpatient Coding Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of patient data for statistical and billing purposes.
Job DescriptionThe ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of coding guidelines and regulations, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You will work closely with clinical documentation specialists and physicians to ensure accurate code assignments and validate Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Group (MSDRG) indicators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Abstract pertinent information from patient records into the appropriate computer system for statistical and billing purposes.
- Coordinate with clinical documentation teams to ensure validation of MSDRG indicators and hospital-acquired conditions.
- Work with Clinical Documentation Specialists and physicians to identify and address documentation improvement needs that support accurate code assignment.
- Query physicians if there are discrepancies in code assignment or documentation in the electronic medical record is inadequate.
To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of 6 months of coding experience, with a strong background in ICD-CM and PCS coding. A bachelor's degree in health information management or a related field is preferred. We also offer competitive compensation and benefits packages, including a salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
