Job Summary

The City of Norfolk, VA is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Part-Time Police Officer in the Central Records Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing various tasks related to law enforcement, including monitoring prisoners, handling security cameras, and assisting with front desk operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform limited police functions, including monitoring prisoners and handling security cameras.
  • Assist with front desk operations, including answering questions from citizens and processing offense reports.
  • Work alone and with others, including officers, civilians, and interacting with the public.
  • Assist the ID section of the Central Records Division with 3rd offense checks.
  • Screen citizens entering the Police Operations Center.
Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License (prior to employment start date)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (born or naturalized)
  • Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Officer certification
  • Must successfully pass all entry-level testing and assessments
  • One (1) year of consecutive active service as a certified police officer in Virginia for a municipal, county, and/or Virginia state law enforcement agency
  • Three (3) years of consecutive active service as a certified police officer in another state of the United States for a municipal, county, and/or state law enforcement agency
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the handling and monitoring of prisoners within Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) guidelines
  • Experience with reading and writing various reports using Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
  • Experience working alone or along with others
Work Schedule

24 hours, 7 Days a Week Availability; 20-hour work week maximum.
